Providing funding and support to students pursuing internships in community organizations based in Morningside Heights and Harlem
About Zwas Community Impact Interns
Zwas Community Impact Interns pursue internships at community-focused nonprofit organizations in Morningside Heights — with secondary consideration for internships hosted by organizations based in Harlem (and New York City more broadly). Eligible internships can be undertaken at any type of community-focused nonprofit organization. Applicants may design their own internship or apply to an existing internship program. A confirmed internship is not necessary prior to submission of an application.
Currently enrolled first-years, sophomores, and juniors are eligible for summer internships. All currently enrolled students are eligible for internships that take place during the academic year.
Summer Internship Benefits & Expectations
- $6,000 stipend for 10 weeks of full-time internship work (equivalent of 350 total hours) completed between the last day of Spring Semester finals and the first day of Fall Semester classes.
- Presentation of work at the Summer Internship Programs Showcase in Fall Semester
- Access to subsidized on-campus housing at Barnard
- Access to Beyond Barnard’s programmatic internship support
- Interns are expected to be located in New York City for the duration of their internship, and must participate in an in-person internship experience
Applications for the Summer 2025 cohort will open in Spring 2025.
